The research
At the international conference Managing Megacities 2016, held in Karachi on 20–22 September 2016, Salman Khatani presented a paper titled Sustainable Socio-Economic Growth in Karachi: Perspectives on the Potential Impact of Youth Entrepreneurship. George Mason University's official conference programme lists the presentation in the thematic session on youth on 22 September.
The work examined youth entrepreneurship as an avenue for discussing economic opportunity and Karachi's longer-term socio-economic development. It belongs to the broader dialogue on urban challenges convened through the University of Karachi–George Mason University partnership, which also covered education, health, transport, water and urban governance.
The institutional distinction: The two universities organised the conference and wider partnership. The official programme identifies Salman Khatani as a presenter of his named research contribution; it does not establish that George Mason University authored his paper, awarded him an individual grant, or employed him. The partnership's institutional funding must not be represented as personal research funding.
